FROM A 'HUMP'LE BEGINNING

Updated: Oct 7, 2025

My journey into natural skincare began in January 2020 when my senior dog, Lucy, developed a rash all over her stomach. The vet diagnosed it as a heat rash caused by humidity and so prescribed a cream. But after a week of applying the cream, I noticed some areas were actually getting worse. Curious (and concerned), I read the ingredients and was horrified by the number of synthetic chemicals it contained.

I've always believed that simple and fresh is best - the less toxic, the better and I've always loved creating things. It got me thinking: Could I make a soap for Lucy? Something as natural as the handmade soaps my grandmother, 'Mamie', once made for me. While I didn't remember my grandmothers exact recipe, I started researching and experimenting and after several failed attempts, I decided to choose ingredients based on what I knew would help Lucy's skin. One of those was Certified Organic Australian camel milk.

To my amazement, the soap turned out beautifully. It lathered well and was packed with nourishing ingredients: camel milk, neem oil, honey, turmeric, coconut oil - and even Pacific Ocean sea water, which I collected myself from the beaches of the Gold Coast. Best of all, Lucy's rash completely cleared up. Soon after, a woman who suffered from severe psoriasis tried the soap. The raw, bleeding areas on her elbows and knees began to heal within weeks. The bleeding stopped, leaving only light scarring where the psoriasis had been for years.

That was the moment I knew I was onto something. I began experimenting with new blends - incorporating herbs, minerals, and native botanicals and creating soaps for different skin types and conditions.

Over time, the range of Australian Camels AU evolved to include Hump Tallow - with its incredible gut healing and skin-nourishing properties - all made from one of Australia's original superfoods: Australian camels.

What you'll find in my products is simple, pure, and honest. You won't see fancy soap designs or toxic chemicals - just natural, functional skincare. I grew up eating fruit off backyard trees, vegetables from the garden, meat from local farmers, and drinking fresh spring water. That upbringing taught me: What you put on your body is just as important as what you put into it.

Thank you so much for visiting my website — I'm truly grateful. xx

PS: Lucy has since past, but will always live on loved and cherished.
